We photographed Sarah and Hugh’s Chaucer Barn wedding earlier this year. It’s worth pointing out that it’s the people that make a wedding, even if the venue is absolutely beautiful. Sarah, Hugh and their guests were no exception. They’re one of the loveliest couples we’ve had the pleasure of working for. When we chatted before the wedding we asked if there was anything in particular they wanted. The couple said they just wanted us to do our thing and trusted us 100%. That really means a lot to us. It’s wonderful to feel trusted and we turned up with a real feeling of wanting to blow the couple away with great photos.
We wrote a blog recently about our favourite wedding venues . It’s no surprise Chaucer Barn in Norfolk made the cut. In fact the venue also made the Independent newspapers top 50 wedding venues too.
Sarah and Hugh have the cutest little Dog, she’s only got three legs but the biggest personality ever!
We knew Sarah was a big bookworm, check out their centerpieces, hopefully they’ll make you ‘squee’ as much as I did. So, our aim was to get them a photo that looked like a book cover from their Chaucer Barn wedding. We’re really chuffed with the photos. Looking through them we couldn’t believe we’d not blogged them sooner!
One of the things that we love about Chaucer Barn weddings is that getting ready in the morning feels really comfy and homely. Where some venues are grand and impressive, Chaucer really puts everyone at ease. This a positive effect on guests and the couple.
We really enjoyed the space (and the awesome garden backgrounds) for Sarah and Hugh’s outdoor ceremony. Though the feeling is really informal and friendly it’s often more impressive to get married outdoors than in even the grandest building. We’re big fans.
After the outdoor ceremony Sarah and Hugh popped into the barn to sign the register. We often suggest to couples that if you want an outdoor wedding, we can help. It’s now become easier than ever as the law concerning ‘permanent outdoor structures’ has changed post Covid. Registrars are more flexible now than ever before. If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, Chaucer is a great option. Chat to us if you need a hand with the plans!
We really love the gardens and open spaces at Chaucer barn. Whilst here are elements that seems very formal there is also much softer garden structures open meadows and woodlands. Throughout the day we probably squeezed three separate portrait sessions in. That sounds a bit busy but we only grabbed the couple for a few minutes at a time as we saw them standing near cool stuff!
It’s really nice that Chaucer have huge glass doors that slide open revealing practically the entire side of the dining area. It gives lots of light and fresh air and really opens up the dining experience.
Hopefully our photos give a good idea of the groove at Chaucer after dinner. Well fed and having had a little drink, everyone really got into the gentle party spirit. The atmosphere was all that’s best at weddings.
Ok, so here are some more portraits because we think Sarah and Hugh look epic.
Coming in for the first dance the DJ warned us all that there was a sound limiter so as not to annoy the neighbours. Honestly we think this encouraged everyone to sing loudly and sure enough, the music turned off! Not a problem though as all the guests just carried on singing Queen’s ‘Don’t stop me now’ acapella! It was absolutely brilliant. Epic. Made Neil cry.
After lots of dancing and singing everyone went outside where the sun had set and it was a bit cooler.
We’re ever so pleased that the cover photo from Sarah and Hugh’s wedding was submitted to ‘Looks like film‘ . It’s a cool photography website we’ve always admired. Happily it was selected by them as one of their ‘Kick ass wedding photographs of 2019’ which made us chuffed!
If you’re planning your Chaucer Barn wedding we’d love to here all about your plans, give us a shout here.
