Norfolk Broads wedding | Alice & Chris

February 22, 2025

Some weddings just have that buzz and Alice & Chris’ Norfolk Broads wedding at Fishley Hall was exactly that – pure magic, full of laughter, and completely them. From the moment they saw each other, all the stress of planning a DIY venue melted away, and they fully embraced the day (even with the rain).

These two have a story full of twists, from a rugby-distracted first date to a surprise proposal. And because one huge life event wasn’t enough, Chris decided to pack in teaching for good the day before the wedding and switch careers completely!

Their day was filled with the most gorgeous, meaningful touches—Alice’s auntie hand-picking flowers at 6 am, an iconic confetti moment (Chris took a few direct hits!), and a ceremony that had everyone laughing. Oh, and their first dance? Decided the night before and completely winged—just how they like it.

We honestly can’t say enough good things about these two. From the very start, we just clicked, and spending the day with them was an absolute joy. Alice & Chris, we adore you both, and capturing your wedding was an incredible experience—we’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!

And let’s not forget Dotty, their four-legged VIP, making sure she got her moment in the spotlight too!

Here’s how their incredible day unfolded…

Tell us a little about yourselves

I’m an end-of-life care specialist nurse. Chris was a secondary school teacher—until the day before the wedding when he decided that one significant life event wasn’t enough! He quit teaching for good and became a landscaper.

How did you meet?

Tinder! 🔥 I wasn’t sure if Chris was even vaguely interested because, when we met at the pub, the rugby was on TV, and he barely made eye contact—too afraid to miss a moment of the game. Later that night, Chris was the victim of a drive-by egging, and he couldn’t help but wonder if it was me!

Tell us about your proposal

We had just bought our house, and after months of waiting, we finally got the keys. It had been empty for six years, so the inside was pretty gross. Chris ran ahead, avoiding me, and when I found him in what is now our dining room, he was on one knee.

When did you start planning your wedding and how long did the planning process take?

We were engaged for 2.5 years. We secured Fishley within the first year but felt like we had plenty of time, so we buried our heads—except for hunting down you two for photography! Other than that, we took a step back until the final year, which flew by with bookings, emails, and finalising plans.

What was your vision for your wedding day?

Relaxed.
Minimal rules.
Everyone around us being happy.
Good music.
Good beer.

Any funny planning blunders?

Two days after the wedding, I was feeling the post-wedding blues—so Chris, after a bottle of champagne, got me to call Lisa (without telling me who I was calling!). He knew it would cheer me up, and it absolutely did.

Tell us about your ceremony 🙂

Magical.
Intimate, despite having 90 people.
Happy.

It was such a relief to see Chris and know it was finally happening, especially after all the worries leading up to the day with a DIY venue.

We decided to let go of any worries about the rain—there was no way we had worked this hard for our day to be ruined!

There’s a brilliant picture of Chris looking down the aisle… but it’s actually because he saw Lisa for the first time! 🤣

What was your most memorable moment of the wedding?

We loved the ceremony.

We were so happy—it felt like we laughed all the way through!

Then came the confetti… I absolutely loved it! It felt magical. Chris, on the other hand, not so much—he took several fistfuls straight to the face at close range from his mates!

What made you laugh on the day?

Not sure if this is allowed, but the celebrant wished us “a lifetime of good head.”

We think she meant health… but who knows? 🤣

Tell us a little bit about the planning process for your wedding

Our first decision was booking Lisa and Neil. After seeing your pictures, we had no doubt that you were the photographers we wanted. After our initial Zoom call, we were so excited to secure the booking.

Madhu on sax and the Joe Ringer Band—absolutely insane! The best decision. Other suppliers even said that the vibe at 3 pm from Maddy’s sax playing was better than some parties at 11 pm!

Ginger Lily Catering were amazing and so helpful. Between your guides and their advice, you were basically wedding planners for us. Their food was incredible, and all our guests have been raving about it.

I had a vision for the flowers—something country garden and whimsical—and I really wanted my family’s input. We have plenty of strong-willed women eager to help (or lead!). Norfolk Flower Farm made this possible. Ellie is perfect, and her flowers, all grown in Norfolk, were absolutely beautiful.

One of the hardest decisions was our first dance. There were too many amazing songs, all too meaningful to choose just one. The song we originally wanted—by Bring Me The Horizon—was never going to be a crowd-pleaser. Alice cringed at the thought of slow dancing, so in the end, we finalised “Boogie Wonderland” by Earth, Wind & Fire the night before. As Chris was leaving, he said, “Shall we just wing it?”—and that’s exactly what we did!

What made you cry?

Alice: The flowers—my auntie went to such lengths to get exactly what I wanted, all from her garden. She was out cutting down alliums and love-in-a-mist at 6 am on the day!

The speeches—especially the toast to my cousin Andy. He was the dad to two of my beautiful bridesmaids, and it felt so important to recognise his presence.

Chris: Getting confetti in my eyeball.

And my dad’s last words in his speech: “special one, normal one, and beautiful one.”

What’s your favourite photo from your wedding day and why?

All of them are so beautiful.

Chris: I loved the ones of us with the bridesmaids—especially Laura appearing from under Alice’s dress!

Alice: One of my favourites is right after we got married, when we stepped outside, and I lifted my flowers and veil down my back, facing away from the camera.

Jointly: The puddle reflection shot, and of course, all the Dotty (the dog) pictures—every single one!

And Dad’s speech, with Alice screwing up her face!

If you could plan and redo your wedding again, is there anything you would do differently?

Stress less.

Don’t sweat the small stuff—what will be, will be.

As a couple, you set the tone. If we had been uptight, everyone else would have been too.

Relax and dance—it truly is the best day of your lives.

We wouldn’t change a thing. We just wish we could do it all over again!

Lisa and Neil where truly the best decision we made when came to our wedding planning!

You are SO much more than photographers – it felt like we had our besties by our side, on our wedding day.
Having them both meant it offered a whole new perspective – Lisa joined me and the bridesmaids in the morning whilst Neil was on hand with the groomsmen to capture the moments that would otherwise have been unseen!

I remember Lisa walking into the room as I had my make up done and instantly feeling more at ease! She was so relaxed and encouraging and totally got the vibe I was after.
Shortly before we left for the ceremony , subtly Lisa sensed my nerves and without fuss asked my maid of honour to pass me a drink and put Taylor swift on!
They both have the experience to keep the day on track in the most genuine way.

The one thing we wanted was to be present with our guests – to see everyone we loved. And Lisa and Neil became part of the party – blending in to be able to capture the emotions , the laughter without any of the formality or stuffiness that sometimes happens at weddings!

Our guests loved you!

We had friends phone us the next day to get your details for their own wedding!
This fills me with jealousy as we want to do it all again – but equally so proud as it shows what an awesome job you both do!

I am not social media savvy – by oh my goodness, your content saved me when it came to wedding planning in the months leading up to our big day.
They have all the top tips ,trust me, listen to Neil when he advises on confetti!

We received our pictures so soon after, Lisa and Neil worked their magic and somehow within 7 days we had our picture Infront of us
This is the pick me up you need when wedding blues set in! They where incredible!
Better than we could have ever asked for!

After the wedding it felt so exciting to sit with our album and see the parts that would otherwise have been missed – the smiles, stories , tears – memories!

We added on the printed album afterwards with money from our wedding gifts- the second best decision we made!
The pictures come alive on print and we were so pleased to have their expertise to help with this process.

We truly cannot thank you enough, we feel so lucky to have had you guys capture our day. You are the best! “
