Jessica & Paul | Luton wedding

January 31, 2025

Jessica and Paul got married at Luton last October and it was AMAZING. It was a little off the beaten track for us but so worth it as these two are lush. Here are some personal highlights from their wedding:

  • The most epic confetti you’ve seen
  • A Mexican wave during the ceremony
  • Cool photos with planes flying overhead
  • Jessica’s gorgeous hair!!
  • Paul’s smouldering stare
  • Pasta

Read on to hear about their day in their own words.

Tell us a little bit about yourselves…

Paul’s an IT engineer and I (Jessica) work in a students’ union. We’ve been trying to find a hobby together that sticks, currently taking tennis lessons but our skill levels are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

How did you meet?

We met at school! We were prefect partners in year 11 but didn’t mix much outside of that. We had mutual friends so occasionally saw each other for people’s birthdays and Christmases. Paul congratulated me after I graduated so I invited him out with our group of friends to celebrate. Everyone eventually left to go home and we stayed out for a few more hours chatting – I asked him out two days later!

Tell us about your proposal

I had the ring for several months while I tried to work out how to propose, eventually I decided to do it at our local park where we often go for walks, Jessica was out with friends the night before and didn’t end up getting in until a lot later than I anticipated so was a bit touch and go with timings (a photographer was hidden to capture the moment) but fortunately everything clicked into place and I proposed in front of the museum in the park in the flower bed and thankfully she said yes.

What was your vision for your wedding day?

We just wanted a big party! We have a big family and a wide group of friends so knew we’d have lots of people around us on the day. The most important thing, of course, was marrying each other – everything else feels into place as we went along.

When did you start planning your wedding and how long did the planning process take?

We started planning the wedding immediately after we got engaged in September 2023 and we got married in October 2024 so it was 13 months and 3 days in total.

Tell us about the planning process! 🙂

We started off by discussing a budget, a guest list, and priorities. We agreed that we wanted to get married locally and that we needed a good photographer and a good DJ (we successfully booked both!) We booked the venues first, in November 2023 after a LOT of visits and quotes. We struggled to find a venue that would let us have pasta for the wedding breakfast – Jessica remembered they had an Italian restaurant onsite and wondered if they would let us hire it out for the evening. When we checked the website, they had wedding packages on offer that hadn’t shown up on any wedding directory online! It felt like it was meant to be. Once we had venues booked, we were able to start reaching out to vendors. We found Lisa and Neil on Instagram quite soon after we got engaged, and to us it was a no brainer to try and book them in. We had our initial meeting just after Christmas and officially booked them in at new years. We had success at wedding fairs too, finding three other vendors at two fairs, everyone else we sourced super locally.

Tell us about your ceremony 🙂

Our ceremony was held at a local church we love; a walk away from our house and one we used to pass every day on the way to college. We’re not especially religious but we’d become members shortly after getting engaged in order to get married there. The whole team are lovely and welcomed us with open arms – we had a rehearsal two nights before the wedding but our lovely vicar David had a few surprises for us on the day: a Mexican Wave as a nod to our joint love of football and a gift of a candle that we lit together to signify our union. It was just so special to be stood in front of our loved ones, sharing such a big moment in our lives.

Any funny planning blunders?

Not really, trying to get the various groups of the bridal party together for fittings was a bit like herding cats but otherwise, most things clicked into place. Paul was very fussy about a ring as well actually, we visited multiple local villages and towns, even going as far as Brighton to look in various jewelers windows😅

What made you laugh on the day?

Our confetti exit was INSANE. We knew we wanted big, colourful photos and so prepared 150 handfuls of confetti plus eight cannons. We did not realise how much we’d have to walk through!!! Paul was lucky to be wearing his glasses, I squinted most of my way through it all! 10/10 would definitely recommend.

We also had our nieces as flower girls, with the youngest not yet being two. She never wants to sit down and had the time of her life exploring the church during the ceremony. At one point whilst we were knelt at the altar for a blessing, she came and crawled next to us through to the sanctuary. She just wanted to join in! We wouldn’t have had it any other way.

What made you cry?

Paul cried at most things from when we woke up right up to the ceremony, Jessica cried when we exchanged gifts in the morning, at the blessing after we were wed, and during the speeches.

What was your most memorable moment of the wedding?

There are a few that stick out, the mexican Wave in church, the confetti exit, hearing all of the speeches and them taking photos at sunset.

What’s your favourite photo from your wedding day and why?

It’s hard to say as we’re obsessed with the whole gallery. The ones we were anticipating the most though were definitely the confetti shots – it rained for about three weeks straight in the lead up to the wedding but luckily enough, we had sunshine and blue skies all day on the wedding day! We’ve had a bauble made for our first Christmas married using one of our confetti photos.

If you could plan and redo your wedding again, is there anything you would do differently?

We were lucky enough to have a perfect day. It was better than we could ever have dreamed of! There’s almost nothing we would change about it, but in hindsight we probably would have stuck to our guns a bit more when it came to other people’s wants and opinions during the planning process.
