Church and marquee wedding | Alice & Chris

February 22, 2025

Some weddings just have that magic—where everything feels effortless, full of love, and completely true to the couple. Alice & Tom’s church and marquee wedding was exactly that.

With a church ceremony that couldn’t have been more personal (Tom’s dad was the vicar!), followed by a festival-style reception in Alice’s mum’s garden, their wedding was all about keeping things relaxed, fun, and full of the people they love most. Think hay bales, food trucks, and a band that kept the dance floor packed all night.

From their first meeting on Hinge to a surprise proposal in Cornwall, these two have the kind of love story that just makes you smile. And their wedding? It was exactly what they’d dreamed of. Scroll on to see all the joy, laughter, and some seriously stunning moments from their day!

Tell us a little about yourselves

I’m a Film Producer, mainly short films & commercials and Tom’s in recruitment! We have a cinema membership to Everyman cinema so we often fit in a film every week at the cinema just down the road from us. We get to see all the good films, and it’s an easy date night with some quality time together. We both keep fit at the gym or going for a run. We love eating delicious food. We love going on as many holidays as we can save for. Our not so mini mini moon was in Saint Lucia, and we’re saving to so a safari in Botswana followed by a week relaxing on the beach in Zanzibar or similar for our BIG honeymoon next year.

Tell us about your proposal

We were on a long weekend away in Flushing, Cornwall and I had literally ZERO idea he was going to propose. I found out he very sweetly taken a day off work, paid for my sister to travel from Bristol (uni) down to London and they spent a day together ring shopping and went for lunch. My sister is my best friend and he felt she’d love to be involved in the ring shopping. Anyway, staying in a little air bnb in Cornwall, Tom went to make us a cup of tea and proposed on one knee by the side of the bed in the morning. Very sweet.

What was your vision for your wedding day?

Both of us have big families and wanted to have as many friends/ family as we could involved in our special day, whilst keeping things relaxed and not overly formal. Tom’s Christian and his dad is a vicar so we always knew we wanted a church ceremony with his dad marrying us, which was a really lovely personal touch. For the reception, we were envisioning festival vibes – a marquee in my mum’s garden, with food trucks/ stalls for food, and hay bales for seating outside – a rustic/ festival vibe.

When did you start planning your wedding and how long did the planning process take?

We were engaged in May 2022. We started looking at quotes and booking in our main suppliers in 2022 so we knew that wouldn’t be a worry/ concern and there was lots of availability with suppliers. After booking in main suppliers there wasn’t much to think about in 2023, so we could do little odd jobs here and there, but then the final organisational things were all sorted in the last couple months in the run up to the wedding!

Tell us a little bit about the planning process

We booked in our marquee company, food suppliers, florist and photographers first. To be honest there wasn’t anything we particularly struggled with. I wasn’t sure about the idea of fish & chips as the wedding main meal at first, but we found Joe at the The Fish Hut who cooked really fresh, local fish in Suffolk so Tom convinced me it was a great idea.

It was a little tricky deciding on a band because we didn’t have any recommendations and music is quite a personal taste. In the end, the band we chose, The Deloreons, were a band I found on insta and they were absolutely brilliant and had everyone dancing all night. One of the trickier things to decide was who was attending as a day/ evening guest and the number of people we actually invited to the reception – as every additional person is also a cost to consider!

Any funny planning blunders?

When I booked in HMU, my HMU included a trial. I never confirmed exactly where my trial should take place. So just assumed Amanda would be coming to me. I received a message from her saying she was running a few minutes late to the trial, so I waited. And no one arrived. Eventually I messaged asking where she was…and found out she was waiting for me at her trial studio! An hour and a half drive away…. This had to be rescheduled!

Tell us about your ceremony

We had a church ceremony at All Saints Church, Frostenden. Tom’s Dad, Ian, is a vicar, so he agreed with the vicar of Frostenden that he would do the service for our wedding. This felt very personal and special for us.

We had around 120 people inside the church. Tom’s friend Rachel Bateman did a reading and his friend Robbie, did a sermon. We had cool music throughout the service. I walked in to ‘You’re All I Need to Get By’ by Arethra Franklin and we walked out to ‘All you need is love’ The Beatles.

Saying our vows was very emotional and turning around to see everyone smiling and clapping after we were married was such an incredibly joyful feeling.

What’s your favourite photo from your wedding day and why?

The photo of me with my head against Tom’s shoulder inside the church, both of us smiling. The lighting in the church is absolutely stunning. It was just us inside the church after we got married, so it feels special. Colours of the flowers look beautiful. Beautiful composition.

What was your most memorable moment of the wedding?

Entering the church with my Dad, seeing Tom for the first time at the end of the aisle, my stepdad moving my veil blusher and standing with Tom at at the front of the church. All these moments felt very emotional and intense!

What made you laugh on the day?

bsolutely everything? I couldn’t have been happier on the day, but honestly the speeches had me in laughter and tears! Everyone had no fear of big digs/ jokes out of Tom & I and this had me in fits of laughter, then tears, then more laughter.

What made you cry?

If you could plan and redo your wedding again, is there anything you would do differently?

Absolutely not. The day was everything I dreamed of and more. I want to do it all over again.

Alice & Tom’s wedding was everything they wanted—relaxed, joyful, and filled with all their favourite people. From their emotional ceremony to the festival-style celebrations that followed, every moment was packed with love, laughter, and a whole lot of dancing. It was an absolute joy to capture their day!
